#3 Michigan had two home duals over the weekend, one at Crisler and one at Cliff Keen Arena. The Wolverines would split the duals, losing to #6 Ohio State and beating #22 Maryland. Against Ohio State, as projected, the dual would come down to a few key swing matches. The Buckeyes won 2 of the 3 swing matches, which gave them an 8-point victory. The Buckeyes won three consecutive tight matches at 125 through 141, and the Wolverines were not able to catch up.
Cameron Amine and Mason Parris were the highlights of the dual for Michigan. Amine, ranked sixth at 165 pounds, put an exclamation point on an overtime match with ninth-ranked Carson Kharchla. Still 1-1 after regulation and the two-minute sudden victory, Amine started down first in the tiebreaker and reversed the Buckeye to his back, earning a four count then the pin. Amine had won the last match between the two, also in overtime.
Parris, who moved to #1 in the country last week after his win over Greg Kerkvliet (Penn State), secured his 11th pin of the season in the third period against Hogan Swenski in the final bout. Parris scored seven takedowns in the bout, including three in the first period, and transitioned from a double leg to a leg turk to earn the fall at 6:07. Parris improved to 20-0 on the season with 14 bonus wins.
On Sunday, Michigan took on #22 Maryland. The Terrapins forfeited both 125 and 197, and Michigan won 7 of the remaining 8 bouts. Parris continued his quest for the Hodge trophy with a 17-0 tech over #26 Jaron Smith. Will Lewan and Dylan Ragusin added pins for the Wolverines in a 44-5 victory.
