16U and Junior boys freestyle is now completed, and Michigan is bringing home 7 All Americans across the two divisions. Caden Krueger (Detroit CC HS) led the way with a finals appearance, going on an impressive, gritty run through the semis. In his semis match, Krueger hit a peek out and scored with 2 seconds left in the match to take the lead and punch his ticket to the finals. In the finals, Krueger ran into the #7 pound-for-pound wrestler in the class of 2028, dropping a 10-0 tech to Hutcherson of PA.
One of the best matches, from a Michigan perspective, was the consi quarters at 113lbs in the Junior division. After Layne Martin (Rockford) knocked off top-50 Freshman Dominguez (NE), he saw fellow Michigan Grappler Jarrett Smith (Lowell) in a match to advance to the consi semis. Smith scored early on a takedown and a shot clock point, and that would be enough, holding onto a tight 3-1 win over the Ram.
Outside of Krueger, it was 3 incoming Freshmen that stole the show in 16U. Sindone, Harmer, and Compau all reached the podium in their first ever trips to Fargo. Harmer's path to the podium was especially impressive after losing in the first round to Ayala of Iowa. After that loss, Harmer rattled off 7 straight wins to secure All American honors.
Although he did not reach the podium, Grayson Fuchs (Detroit CC HS) had potentially the best win of anyone this weekend. After dropping to the consis, Fuchs beat #9 Gabe Ballard (PA) on criteria in a 4-4 match. That win alone should be enough to see Fuchs enter the next batch of national rankings.
16U and Junior boys Greco will round out the 2025 Fargo tournament over the next two days! Stay tuned for updates.
