KANEN STORR COMES IN AT #6 FOLLOWING STELLAR PRESEASON

PREP 25 (12/4)

#1 Logan Massa, St Johns (12)

Massa is clearly the state’s #1, and arguably the country’s. He’s ranked #1 nationally at 160lbs and #3 in the Class of 2015. A University of Michigan commit, Massa hasn’t competed in Folkstyle since last year’s state tournament. He’s had an awesome summer on the Freestyle circuit, most recently placing 3rd in his Senior level debut at the Brazil Cup. On the state level, Massa is a 3X D2 state finalist and 2X champion.


#2 Angus Arthur, St Johns (12)

Arthur hasn’t competed this offseason, but he stockpiled enough credentials in the years prior to earn a #2 ranking here. A 2X D2 state champion coming off of an undefeated season, Arthur is ranked #5 in the country at 195 and #22 in the Class of 2015.  His most notable achievement to date came in the summer of 2013 when Arthur made the FILA Cadet Freestyle Word Team. He recently announced his commitment to Purdue where he intends to wrestle and play football for the Boilermakers.

#3 Nate Limmex, Grand Rapids CC (12)

A 2X D3 state champion, Limmex hasn’t suffered a scholastic loss since his freshmea season. This fall he wrestled at the Super 32 Challenge and finished 3rd, avenging his quarterfinal loss in the consolation semis. Another Purdue commit, Limmex is ranked #4 nationally at 138lbs and #29 in the senior class.


#4 Myles Amine, Detroit CC (12)

Amine is on the rise after an exceptional offseason where he placed 3rd at Flonationals and 7th Junior Freestyle Nationals. A University of Michigan commit, Amine holds a national of ranking of #12 at 152lbs and is also slotted #41 in the Class of 2015. He won his first state title last spring, finally defeating long-time foe Justin Oliver of Davison in the D1 state finals; a 2X state champ who had Amine’s number up to that point.


#5 Devin Schroder, Grand Rapids CC (11)

The state’s top underclassmen, Schroder is ranked #8 in the country at 120lbs and #34 in the Class of 2016. A 2X D3 state champ, Schroder scored the biggest win of his career in the state finals last spring when he beat Kanen Storr of Leslie in a battle of defending champs. Schroder proceeded to have a very successful offseason, winning gold at Flonationals and posting a spotless mark at the AAU Scholastic Duals.


#6 Kanen Storr, Leslie (11)

Storr is coming off of a career performance at the Super 32 Challenge where he finished 3rd and beat 3X D1 state champ Lincoln Olson of Davison in the process. Ranked #11 in the country at 126lbs and #39 in the junior class, Storr is also a 2X Cadet Freestyle All-American. On the state level he’s a 2X D3 state finalist and 1X state champion.


#7 Lincoln Olson, Davison (12)

A 3X D1 state champion, Olson heads into his senior season poised for a 4th. He’s an Oklahoma State commit who holds national rankings of #12 at 126lbs and #56 in the senior class. Olson is extremely well traveled and has an extensive national resume that includes a pair of GFC titles and AA finishes at Super 32, Cadet/Junior Freestyle Nationals, and Flonationals.


#8 Devin Skatzka, Richmond (12)

Another 3X state champion, Skatzka enters his year as a heavy favorite to win gold for a 4th time in D3. Ranked #10 in the country at 160lbs and #62 in the Class of 2015, Skatzka has committed to continue his career at Indiana University. This spring he had his best national performance to date, placing 3rd at Flonationals.


#9 Josh Colegrove, Lowell (12)

After missing his sophomore season due to injury, Colegrove returned in dominant forum last year and claimed his first state title. He has limited national credentials, but that hasn’t stopped him from achieving a #4 national ranking at 220lbs and #83 mark in the senior class. At this point, he is the top unsigned recruit in the state of Michigan.


#10 Ty Wildmo, St Johns (12)

He wrestled last season up at 215lbs, but this summer Wildmo made his way down to 182lbs where he currently is ranked #12 in the country. A University of Michigan commit, Wildmo is also ranked as the #81 recruit in the senior class. He’s had a lot of success against high level completion on the FS/GR scene the past couple years and was also a GFC champion and Super 32 in 2013. Wildmo is a 2X state placer, finishing 3rd in D1 in 2013 and 4th in D2 last season.

#11 Jacob Cooper, Springport (12)

Cooper is red hot after a breakout preseason. He dominated his way to a title at the GFC and followed up with a 3rd place finish at Super 32 a couple weeks later. Consequently, he’s now ranked #11 in the nation at 220lbs and is also listed as one of the top 150 seniors in the country. A 3X D4 finalist and 2X champ, Cooper has committed to continue his career at Michigan State next season.


#12 Max Dean, Lowell (11)

Last season Dean was one of the state’s breakout stars, convincingly winning his first state title in a weight class that included defending champ Devon Pingle. Later that spring Dean had another very impressive performance with a 5th place finish at Flonationals. He’s currently ranked #17 in the nation at 182lbs and #42 in the junior class.


#13 Austin Thompson, Marysville (12)

Thompson is fresh off of an awesome showing at Super 32 where he fell just 1 match shy of placing. Before bowing out he beat some top-notch competition, and it landed him a #15 national ranking at 138lbs. An MSU commit, Thompson is also ranked as one on the country’s top 150 senior recruits. After beginning his career in D1, Thompson moved to D2 last season and claimed his first state title.


#14 Benny Gomez, Holt (12)

Gomez stock has soared over the past few months, starting this July in Fargo where he placed 5th in both Freestyle and Greco Roman Junior National competition. He also had a great GFC, finishing 3rd with wins over D1 state champ Ben Freeman and D2 state champ Lucas Hall. He’s a 3X D1 state placer, winning a title in 2013 and never finishing outside the top 4. Listed as one of the country’s top 200 seniors, Gomez has yet to declare his college plans.


#15 Ben Freeman, Walled Lake Central (10)

The state’s top sophomore, Freeman was awesome in his debut season and teched through the D1 state tournament to win his first title. He’s extremely active year round. This offseason alone he was Cadet Folkstyle National champ, a Cadet Freestyle National runner-up, and Super 32 All-American. Currently Freeman is ranked #19 nationally in the class of 2017.


#16 Ian Parker, St Johns (11)

Since the beginning of his career Parker has consistently been among the state’s elite lowerweights. He was a D2 state runner-up as a freshman and finished 3rd last season. Parker has a lengthy national resume and is a 3X GFC AA, 2X Cadet Freestyle AA, and 2X FILA Cadet Freestyle. This fall he scored a signature winning at the GFC, thwarting long time nemesis and D2 state champ Lucas Hall of Lowell. Parker holds a national ranking of #58 in the Class of 2016.


#17 Lucas Hall, Lowell (11)

A 3X GFC AA and 2X champ, Hall is one the state’s most explosive and exciting wrestlers. He won his first D2 state title last season, beating his rival Ian Parker of St Johns in the semis. Also a 3rd place finisher at Flonationals this spring, Hall is ranked as the #60 junior in the country.


#18 Ryan Prescott, Whittemore Prescott (12)

One of the state’s most successful big men of all time, Prescott is a 3X D4 state finalist and 2X champ. He’s currently ranked #14 in the country at 285lbs and was a Flonationals runner-up this spring. Also ranked as one of the country’s top 200 recruits, Prescott is committed to Northern Illinois University.


#19 Landon Pelham, Tecumseh (11)

He’ll miss the early goings of the season due to injury, but look for Pelham to emerge as one the state’s elite big guys in 2015. A former Cadet National finalist in both Freestyle and Greco, Pelham is ranked #15 in the country at 220lbs and #65 in the class of 2016. He’s a 2X D2 state placer, finishing 5th last season and 6th in 2013.


#20 Trevor Zdebski, Detroit CC (12)

Throughout his prep career Zdebski has been among the state’s elite lowerweights. He finished 3rd in D1 as freshman and sophomore before claiming his first state title last season. Another top 200 recruit, Zdebski is committed to the University of Michigan. He’s also a 2X GFC AA and has fallen just short of placing at Junior Freestyle Nationals the past couple of summers.


#21 Mason Smith, Clio (12)

Smith, who is committed to CMU, is yet another D1 recruit in this year’s extremely deep senior class. He’s a 2X D2 state who ranks among the nation’s top 200 seniors. A 2X D2 state champ, Smith is also well accomplished nationally. In the fall of 2012 he was a champ at the NUWAY Freakshow and took home runner-up honors at the GFC.


#22 Devon Pingle, Lapeer (11)

This fall Pingle won his first national tourney, dominating the field at the GFC. On the state level he’s a 2X D2 state finalist, finishing runner-up last year and 1st in 2013. This year he will make his D1 debut as he now attends the newly unified Lapeer High School.


#23 Jelani Embree, Warren Lincoln (10)

One of the most anticipated storylines of the upcoming season is the high school debut of Jelani Embree. Ranked as the country’s #22 sophomore, Embree did not wrestle as a freshman due to an injury suffered last fall that cost him nearly an entire calendar year. A few weeks prior to his injury, Embree won the 2013 GFC in dominant fashion. He also posted a combined record of 12-0 at the Cadet National Duals that summer.


#24 Foster Karmon, Grand Rapids CC (11)

Karmon has rather quietly been one of the state’s most successful consistent wrestlers over the past couple of years. A D3 state champ last season, Karmon was a GFC runner-up this fall. He also managed to win the GFC as an 8th grader back in 2011.


#25 Logan Parks, Southgate Anderson (12)

Parks enters his senior season as a favorite to bring home his first D1 state title. He recently finished 3rd at the GFC, and earlier this offseason he came just short of earning AA honors at Flonationals and Junior Freestyle Nationals. Last season he placed for the first time in his career, finishing 3rd in a weight class that included 3 D1 recruits: Myles Amine (1st), Justin Oliver (2nd), and Tevin Machart (4th).
