D4 Quarterfinals: On Paper

#1 Hudson vs #8 Roscommon

Outlook: Roscommon has not picked up a win at team state since their spectacular run to the finals in 2006, and the odds are stacked against them on Friday. Hudson has won three straight state titles, and they haven't missed the quarterfinals since 2007. Nonetheless, Roscommon is having a remarkable season, reaching the quarterfinals for the 9th time in program history. Hudson has 11 going to Ford Field, so they will have too much in this one, but look for Roscommon to compete down low, and we could potentially see a solid match at 165lbs.

Prediction: Hudson +48

#2 St. Louis vs #7 Charlevoix

Outlook: Props to Charlevoix for making their first-ever team state tournament, especially given their best wrestler and leader is out for the season. However, St. Louis has an outstanding team this year that includes 10 state qualifiers. The Sharks will have too much in this one, but Charlevoix will keep things interesting from 150 on up. St. Louis should pick up an abundance of bonus points in the first half of the lineup.

Prediction: St. Louis +40

#3 Martin/Climax-Scotts vs #6 Union City

Outlook: M/CS is making their third straight trip to Wings Event Center, while Union City making their first appearance since 2000. Both teams can get a little creative with their lineups, which makes this one difficult to predict. UC will likely try to get Taylor off Buell, in which case Buell will be counted on for a pin. Gilbert, Joostberns, and Bleeker are others that can pick up bonus points for M/CS. For Union City, they have to win the swing matches and count on bonus points from Crance and Boyer. This is a coin flip, but we will go with the higher seed.

Prediction: Martin/Climax-Scotts +1

#4 LakeVille vs #5 Clinton

Outlook: Clinton has a big experience advantage in this one, making their 9th straight appearance. This is just trip #2 for LakeVille, with their only other trip being in 1993. Clinton has really been coming on the later part of the year, settling into their weights and wrestling their best. LakeVille has an incredible 11 state qualifiers this year, while Clinton will have 6 going to Ford Field. Clinton can be flexible and make this dual a toss-up, but we will go with LakeVille to fill out the more complete lineup.
