Boys Best Bets
1. Blake Cosby, Dundee HS - Cosby is the #1 wrestler in the Class of 2026 for a reason. He's placed just about every national tournament there is to place at, including this tournament a year ago. Cosby took 5th last year at 150lbs in Junior Freestyle, and he is a likely candidate to improve on last year's placing.
2. Jay'Den Williams, Roseville HS - Williams has an argument to be at the top of this list, as he was a Fargo finalist last year, and he is one of the most electric wrestlers in the country. If it weren't for Cosby's consistent results, Williams would be Michigan's best bet to place this year. He has the potential to win both styles, and he is a must-watch in every match next week.
3. Nicholas Sorrow, Hudson HS - Sorrow has had his fair share of success in Fargo, placing in 16U a few years ago. The Hudson Tiger is fresh off a Pan Am gold medal, and he will be a tough out next week in both styles.
4. Jarrett Smith, Lowell HS - Jarrett Smith is the only Michigan Grappler on the boys side to have Stop Sign bragging rights in his career, winning a Cadet Freestyle title two years ago. Smith also made the podium last year at 113lbs, taking 3rd in Junior FS.
5. Grayson Fuchs, Detroit Catholic Central HS - The Shamrock is fresh off his second consecutive D1 title, and he has plenty of national freestyle success. Fuchs took 6th in 16U last year, and he was a runner-up at 15U Nationals two years ago in Vegas. He has the ability to beat anyone in the country on any given day.
6. Connor Bercume, Detroit Catholic Central HS - Bercume is a Super 32 All American, but he has not yet placed at Junior Freestyle Nationals. Bercume was unable to compete last year, although he would have also made this list in 2024. Bercume is making his national debut at 285lbs, and we like his ability to score early and often at the heavier weight.
7. Bodie Abbey, Hartland HS - Abbey had one of the most impressive HS seasons in the state this past year, and it earned him a top-15 ranking in the country. He will be tough draw for anyone, and we like his odds to place.
8. Dylan Nieuwenhuis, Plainwell HS - Nieuwenhuis is another returning placewinner, taking 6th last year in 16U Greco. Nieuwenhuis proved that wasn't a fluke, putting together outstanding tournaments at both 16U and Junior duals last month. Nieuwenhuis went 12-2 up an age group at Junior Duals, and he went undefeated in 16U Greco.
9. Gavin Boller, Detroit Catholic Central HS* - The incoming Frosh had an outstanding 16U Dual tournament, going 15-2 combined between Freestyle and Greco. He has placed at just about every youth national tournament in his young career, and this will be his first real HS test.
10. Brody Compau, Rockford HS* - Another incoming Frosh makes the list here, as the Rockford Ram doubled up as Freestyle and Greco Pan Am champ this offseason. He took a few losses at duals last month, so it'll be interesting to see what adjustments he makes going into Fargo.

Girls Best Bets
1. Kaili Manuel, Romeo HS - Manuel has just about done it all, and she's only a first-year Junior. She won a 16U Freestyle National championship last year in dominant fashion, and she's a solid bet to win it all this year as a Junior.
2. Madison Nieuwenhuis, Plainwell HS - Like Manuel, Nieuwenhuis has just about done it all in her impressive high school year. She has won Super 32, won a Stop Sign in Fargo, and has even seen success in college opens. If it weren't for #1 nationally ranked Manuel, Nieuwenhuis would be our best bet for another Fargo Stop Sign.
3. Margaret Buurma, Fowlerville HS - Buurma is one of two returning placewinners from last year's Junior Freestyle tournament in Fargo. Buurma won her 4th MHSAA state championship a few months ago, and she had some success in college opens during the year. She is a real threat to win a Stop Sign this upcoming week.
4. Belicia Manuel, Romeo HS - Manuel won an extremely tough Grappler Fall Classic this past year, proving she belongs on the national stage. She had a back-and-forth rivalry with Buurma during the MHSAA season, cementing herself as one of the top girls in the nation.
5. Isabella Cepak, South Lyon East HS - Cepak made an impressive run to the 135lb Junior finals last year after also making the podium in 16U the year before. She is
6. Cheyenne Frank, Oxford HS - Frank has had a remarkable past year, finishing as runner-up last year in 16U at 118lbs, and she won a Grappler Fall Classic title in the Fall. She is as likely as anyone to make another run to the finals this year.
7. Cecilia Williams, Mason HS - Williams is another Michigan Grappler with a stop sign, winning a Fargo title in 2021 at 112lbs. Williams did not compete at Fargo last year, but she pinned her way to an MHSAA state title this year. She's one of the toughest girls in the country, and she will likely prove that again this upcoming week.
8. Gigi Bragg - Bragg, who wrestles in Minnesota during the school year, competes for Team Michigan in the offseason. She took 3rd at 100lbs in 2022 for the Mitten State, and with most of her recent competition coming against college girls, Bragg has a great shot to put together an extremely solid tournament this year.
9. Alexis Lazar - Lazar took 3rd at 118lbs last year in 16U, and has also seen success on the college level. Lazar won the Alma open this past season, and she has the ability to beat just about any high school girl in the country.
10. Maddie Hayden, Caledonia HS - The state champ was a Fargo finalist two years ago, taking 2nd at 152lbs in 16U in 2023. Maddie Hayden took 3rd this past season at the prestigious Midlands tournament, so she can compete with any high school girl in the country.
