3) Jayden Zakala (215; Oneonta)----Anticipate a boost in the polls for the Yellowjacket senior as the current DII #14 continued to be a leading dispenser of "6" this past weekend, as he hammered all three of his foes, putting proverbial nails in the coffin at the 1:45, :42, 3:13, and 3:41 marks....Of particular interest would be his last two victories as he followed up the stick of 2023 S4 runner-up, Zahkye Jenkins (Elmira), by striking for an even eye-grabbing decking another S4 runner-up---DII #8/2023 State Qualifier, Matthias Welles (Waverly), in the 'ship!
4) Isaiah Hockx (160; Saugerties)---Make it two years in a row where a member of this clan managed to hoist 160-pound hardware as the Senior out of Saugeries, joined 2023 titlist, Christian [Hockx], in taking home the "precious"....Unranked at the moment, but probably about to see his name in the top-15 when an update is done, Isaiah went rather unchallenged in his quest to add to the family legacy, as his final stop on the journey to Titletown was a 9-3 decision over 2023 NYS Qualifer/DII #11 ranked Kyber Henry (Cobleskill-Richmondville), in a battle of respective sectional silver medalists between S2 and S9....Henry was the second of two Albany area place-winners that Hockx would defeat, as one appearance prior, he posted a similar 9-4 decision over returning Sectional 4th, Howard Bearce (Burnt Hills)!
5) Kamdyn Dorchester (285; Carthage)----His lone blemish this season coming to current DI #1/2023 State runner-up, Stephan Monchery, the Carthage Junior (currently fifth-ranked) added Cordell gold to the Clyde Cole he won last month when he flattened 2023 NYS Qualifier, Troy Beeman (Waverly), in a finals showdown pitting the bronze medalists from Sections 3 and 4 against one another....He reached the finals behind back-to-back sub.-1:00 falls in the quarters and semis!
6) Scott Nicolella (131; Duanesburg)---Successfully defending the brass ring he won in 2023, the Eagle senior soared to the 131-pound gold last weekend behind a solid 6-1 decision versus 2x S2 5th, Sameer Abbaszadeh (Shaker)....But alas, it was the effort he showed in his previous match that really caught our attention, as he made a huge statement when he stuck Carthage's Landon Copley in just 28 ticks in a skirmish of returning NYSPHSAA Qualifiers!!!
7) Shay Sinitiere (138; Carthage)----After previous finishes of 6th, 4th, and 3rd from 2020-2023, the Comet senior capitalized on his final opportunity to win Cordell gold, as he doubled up Ethan Randis (Chenango Valley), 4-2, to get the better end of the clash of the former and/or returning NYSPHSAA Qualifiers!!!
8) Brody Dicaprio (102; Burnt Hills)---After finishing as the runner-up at this event last season, the current DI #4/2023 S2 bronze medalist for the Spartans struck gold this weekend as he'd utilize a 6-4 decision over DII #2/returning Section 4th, Drayton DeKay (Waverly), to hoist the hardware....Still unbeaten this season per CNYWrestling, Dicaprio recorded 1st period falls in his quarter and semifinal bouts to set up the aforementioned collision of top-5 personnel!!
9) Anthony Valls (108; Chenango Valley)---Making his second trip to the Cordell finale (runner-up in 2022), this time the day belonged to the DII #4 ranked/2022 State 8th for the Warriors, as his last bullet point on a resume of brilliance came in the form of a fall in 3:09 over DII #7/2023 Sectional 5th), Gavin Nordberg (Unatego-Unadilla Valley)....The last of three bonus-point produced outcomes, the fab freshman for CV had a fall in 3:00, followed by a tech in 4:16 in his previous appearances!
10) Justin Somers (116; Walton-Delaware Academy)----Perhaps one of the breakout stars of the 2023-2024 campaign thus far has been the Warrior freshman who added a title at the Cordell to the crowns he already won this season at the Clyde Cole and Cuneen Doane....Shooting up from 6th at the 2023 S4 Championships to DII #3 ranked in NYS, Somers was "bad draw" for anyone who crossed paths with him as he'd go 4-0, with wins over the top-3 seeds among the field....His two biggest wins came naturally in the semifinal and title rounds as he pinned 2023 S9 4th, Santiago ChrisJohn (Saugerties); and then complemented it by running away with an 8-1 decision against #1 seed/2023 S4 bronze winner, Ryder DePadua-Reese (Elmira)!

3) Parker Manor (152; Northern Adirondack)---Proving that seeding means nothing was the 2x S7 placer who rose from the #5 spot in the bracket to win it all...His most substantial victory coming in the semifinals, Manor scored nine of 12 points on the mat (2 reversals, 2 sets of NF) to post a 12-5 decision over 2023 Vermont State 5th, Leo Johnson (Spaulding)....One TD apiece in each of the three periods, plus a full set of swipes helped him to a 9-1 major in the title contest over Queensbury's Isaiah Engel!
4) Luke Satriano (124; Valley Central)----Showing why he is the NYWN DI #1 ranked 124-pounder, the 2x NYS medalist/defending large school state champion for the Vikings repeated as a champion at the Saratoga (won at 110 in 2023), as he'd tally two takedowns and added a 3rd period NF to pitch a 7-0 shutout in the finals over DI #11/2x State Qualifier/fellow 2023 Saratoga champ, Nico Rivera (Mohonasen)....The blanking in the finals being his only full day at the office, Satriano also pinned Sectional bronze medalist, Chase Matter (Saratoga Springs), in 4:37, of their semis showdown for the last of his three consecutive pins to punch his ticket to the 'ship!
5) Mason McCombs (190; Windsor)---Reclaiming his throne (2022 champion at 160) after finishing as the runner-up at the event last season, the current DII #4/2x NYS 4th was up 4-0 when the slap of the mat came at the 2:32 to signify the end of his title match with DII #10/2x S7 Champion/2x NYSPHSAA Qualifier, Trey McGee (Northern Adirondack)....The Black Knight senior did not go the distance in any of his three outings, as he was a sub.-1:00 winner by fall in the quarters and received a walkover/medical forfeit in the semifinals
6) Lucas Schell (160; Queensbury)---In a collision of 2023 Section 2 silver medalist/NYSPHSAA Qualifiers, it was DI #7 ranked Schell, breaking a 4-4 tie when he struck for an escape and TD in the 3rd period to upend Averill Park's Charlie Welcome, 7-4, in the finals...Still immaculate in his swan song for the Spartans, Schell picked up dubs by over two other returning sectional medalists, as he pinned 2x S10 runner-up, Chase White (Malone), in the quarters; and then tallied three takedowns and an R2 to earn an 8-2 decision in the semis over S2 5th, James Capasso (Ballston Spa)!

8) Esuar Ordonez (131; Putnam Valley)----The 2023 NYS 8th/current DII #11 (@138) dropped down to seize the brass ring when a takedown :20 into the 1st period and an escape in the last :45 of the 3rd was all he needed to record a 3-2 decision over 2x Section 2 medalist, DI #13 Jacob Hanlon (Averill Park), in a war of NYWN top-15s....The second of two dubs over returning sectional place-winners, in the semis, the Tiger senior also notched three TDs and a set of backs en route to a 10-1 major over 2023 S2 6th, Luke Stoutenburg (Saratoga Spring)!
