The Ultimate Alliance ("UA”) is pleased to announce that it has aligned itself with the Ultimate Fighting Championship®, better known as the UFC®, for its upcoming UFC® International Fight Week July 1-6, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The UA, a newly formed organization, combines the strengths of the National High School Coaches Association ("NHSCA”), the National United Wrestling Association for Youth ("NUWAY”) and Rocky Mountain National Events, and focuses on establishing a foundation for athletes, coaches and programs that will support all levels of the sport, from the youth level through the professional ranks.
In conjunction with the UFC® International Fight Week, the Ultimate Alliance will hold "The Ultimates” Wrestling Championship July 3-6, 2014 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. The Ultimates will showcase America’s most talented wrestlers in one of the grandest combat venues in the world. This one-of-a-kind event features both team and individual competition, with all of the wrestling taking place during the UFC® International Fight Week.
" I am very excited about the opportunity of being an integral part of The Ultimate Alliance, and more importantly about being involved with the grass roots development of the sport of Wrestling across the United States,” said Bryan Lindsey, Vice President and COO of the Ultimate Alliance. "Our vision of partnering with the UFC® at the International Fight Week series of events and "The Ultimates” Wrestling Championship is a huge step in getting three of the largest wrestling organizations in the United States to all work closely together to grow the sport of wrestling to a level we have yet to see. We know that the top wrestlers and coaches in the United States are extremely excited about wrestling in the fight capital of the world and on one of the biggest competition stages in the world: Mandalay Bay. The Ultimate Alliance has big plans both domestically and internationally, so stay tuned!”
"The Ultimates” Wrestling Championship is a three day competition that starts with a team dual meet utilizing both folk-style and freestyle formats. Folk-style will showcase high school, middle school and elementary school divisions. Freestyle will only feature a high school division.
Following the dual meet competition, eight "Ultimate” teams will compete in a never-before-seen scholastic style dual meet. Celebrity coaches will coach each of the eight teams. The celebrity coaches will include top NCAA Division I head coaches, plus current wrestling and UFC® superstars!
The final day of competition at The Ultimates will feature a "last man standing” folk-style event for each age group. There will also be a "last man standing” freestyle event for the high school division. These are single elimination events. Only the last man standing in each weight class will earn the championship belt! Only the strong can and will survive this ultimate test.
The Ultimate Alliance will select three outstanding wrestlers from the lower weight classes, the middle weight classes, and the upper weight classes to receive a commemorative championship belt, aired live on TV during The Ultimate Fighter® 19 Finale.
Participating wrestlers and coaches will rub elbows with UFC® superstars and leadership throughout the competition. All participating wrestlers will be granted admission into the UFC® International Fight Week Fan Expo. Event participants will also be invited to a Saturday night UFC® Fight Night viewing party.
