Class 2A Elite 8 State Duals Preview

STATE CHAMPIONS WILL BE CROWNED THIS WEEKEND!!!

CLASS 2A

The Bracket- Class 2A
Brantley Co vs #1 Rockmart
Landmark vs #6 East Jackson
#4 Model vs #5 Toombs
#15 Murray Co vs #2 Fannin Co

The biggest surprise here has to be Brantley Co, congrats to the Herons for making it through one of the more competitive quads in this classification.  Area 7 put 3 teams through to the Elite 8, and that really isn't too big of a surprise, but I didn't see Murray Co winning over ELCA by 40+.  Rockmart and Fannin Co have been 1 and 2 all season long, and they are both in pretty good shape to make good on meeting for the State Championship on Saturday.

Quarterfinals
Rockmart and Fannin Co will absolutely roll through to the semifinals.  Landmark and East Jackson will be a very interesting matchup between teams that many thought wouldn't be here, yet one of them will advance to the semifinals, I anticipate a close match won by East Jackson.  The Model vs Toombs match will be the highlight of the first round, and I anticipate it will the first of two matches between these schools on Saturday.  Look for Toombs to pull out a 7-10 point win to move on and face Fannin.

Semifinals
Fannin Co could see a little bit of a scare from Toombs Co in the semifinals, but this #1 vs #2 showdown between Rockmart and Fannin has been brewing all season, and I really don't see anything getting in the way of that.  Look for Fannin to win by around 15, and Rockmart should advance by 20+

Consolation Rounds:
Landmark over Brantley Co
Model over Murray Co

Toombs Co over Landmark
Model over East Jackson

3rd Place Match:
A 1st round rematch between Model and Toombs looks to be in order here, which team will make the right adjustments, and which team will suffer the most physical and mental attrition throughout the day.  Honestly, whoever wins in round 1, very well could be at a disadvantage the second time around.  Look for Toombs to also win the rematch

Finals:
As mentioned above, this showdown has been brewing all season, really since the new classifications were released about a year ago.  Rockmart won the State Duals last year in 3A, and I see them going back to back this year.  Rockmart wins 51-20
