The 2024 Grappler Fall Classic is completed, and the annual Super 32 tournament in Greensboro, NC, is up next. Wrestling will begin the morning of Saturday the 12th and finish on Sunday the 13th. Michigan has a big crew headed to North Carolina this year, including 44 boys and 11 girls in the high school division.

Michigan saw four boys reach the podium last year, joining six wrestlers in the girls division. In the boys division, Connor Bercume is the lone returning placer, finishing 7th at 215lbs a year ago. Jackson Blum also placed in 2023, although he is not registered this year. For the girls, there are two returning champs in Madison Nieuwenhuis and Kaili Manuel. Belicia Manuel is the other returning All American for the girls. We compiled the top-8 best bets for both boys and girls this year. Best Bets - Boys

1. Connor Bercume, 215lbs (Detroit CC) - The lone returning Super 32 All American for Michigan, and fresh off his second consecutive Grappler Fall Classic championship. Bercume is seeded 6th in this year's tournament, and will be looking to climb on last year's 7th-place finish.
2. Blake Cosby, 150lbs (Dundee) - Cosby just won a state championship in his Sophomore season, beating a handful of nationally ranked guys during the regular season en route to first place finishes at both the Carnahan Memorial and Brecksville Holiday invitationals. Cosby took 5th in Junior Freestyle in Fargo this past summer, and he enters this year's Super 32 as the 8-seed at 150lbs.
3. Jarrett Smith, 106lbs (Lowell) - Smith has continuously climbed the national rankings, reaching the top-10 this offseason. Most notably, Smith went 8-1 in Junior Freestyle to finish 3rd in Fargo this past July. At 106lbs, Smith is going to be tough to beat, and he is seeded in the top-8 entering the tournament.
4. Owen Segorski, 157lbs (Lowell) - Segorski went 4-2 in Junior Freestyle in July, just a weeks ago after an outstanding performance at Junior Duals. The 2x state champ went 2-2 at Super 32 a year ago in a loaded 144lb bracket, and he will look to build on his 4th place finish at the Grappler Fall Classic.
5. Grayson Fuchs, 138lbs (Detroit CC) - Fuchs reached the finals of the Grappler Fall Classic a week ago, dropping a 2-1 decision in the tiebreakers to top-20 nationally ranked Gunner Andrick. Fuchs earned All American honors in 16U in Fargo over the Summer, proving he can compete with anyone in the country.
6. Nicholas Sorrow, 126lbs (Hudson) - Sorrow will be the #18 seed at this year's Super 32 and will look to improve on a 4-2 record from a year ago. Since that tournament, Sorrow went 52-1 on his way to a second consecutive state championship, and he also reached the blood round in 16U Freestyle in Fargo.
7. Layne Martin, 113lbs (Rockford) - Not many people have done as much as Martin in the last 6 months to raise their stock. Martin went on a run to reach the semis at Fargo in July, eventually finishing 6th. Martin has followed that up with a finals appearance at the Grappler Fall Classic. He's proving to be a tough out for anyone. Martin enters the tournament as the #22 seed.
8. Wyatt Lees, 120lbs (Detroit CC) - Lees is a back-to-back division 1 state champ, and he saw success at Super 32 last year. Lees went 4-2 at 106lbs a year ago, only losing to the eventual 1st and 3rd place finishers.

Best Bets - Girls

1. Kaili Manuel, 160lbs (Romeo) - Manuel won Super 32 last year at 148lbs and has not slowed down since. Manuel followed that up with a Stop Sign in Fargo, going 6-0 with 5 techs or pins in 16U Freestyle. She is one of the best pound-for-pound wrestlers in the country, and will be looking for her second Super 32 Belt.
2. Madison Nieuwenhuis, 100lbs (Plainwell) - Nieuwenhuis will take her top-5 national ranking into Greensboro this weekend after she won 1-1 over the #3 wrestler in the country last year in the Super 32 finals. Since then, Nieuwenhuis won another MHSAA state title and finished as runner-up in Fargo.
3. Alexis Lazar, 132lbs (N/A) - Lazar currently has herself ranked top-5 in the country after taking 3rd in 16U Freestyle in Fargo. In the past year, Lazar won a pair of college opens (Tiffin and Alma), and she took first in both age groups at Central Regionals.
4. Belicia Manuel, 148lbs (Romeo) - Belicia took 4th in Greensboro last year and will look to climb the podium this year. She is currently ranked 9th in the country after an MHSAA championship in March and a Grappler Fall Classic championship last weekend.
5. Margaret Buurma, 138lbs (Fowlerville) - Buurma is currently ranked 6th in the country, and she finds herself on the podium in essentially every tournament she enters. In the past year, Buurma won an MHSAA state title. took 5th in Junior Freestyle in Fargo, and she won a Junior Folkstyle national championship.
6. Isabella Cepak, 138lbs (South Lyon East) - Cepak has climbed to the #4 spot in the country after a finals appearance in the MHSAA state tournament and a runner-up finish in Junior Freestyle in Fargo. Cepak was a match short of placing last year in Greensboro, and she has set herself up nicely for an All American finish this year.
7. Cheyenne Frank, 118lbs (Oxford) - Frank continues to impress after making a run to the finals in 16U Freestyle in Fargo this summer, and then she followed that up with an outstanding Grappler Fall Classic championship this past week. She has moved up to a top-10 national ranking, and she will no doubt continue to climb those rankings.
8. Paisley Denault, 138lbs (Clarkston) - Denault has moved up to 12th in the national rankings, thanks in part to an 8th place finish in 16U Freestyle this past July. Before that, Denault made a run to the finals in a tough 135lb bracket at the MHSAA state tournament.
